The fifth generation of computers was an ambitious project launched by Japan in the late 70's. Its aim was to develop a class of computers would use artificial intelligence techniques -level machine language and be able to solve complex problems, such as automatic translation of natural language to another (from Japanese to English, for example).
The project lasted ten years, but did not obtain the expected results and followed today's computers, as there are many cases where it is either impossible to carry out a parallelization of it, or once held it but did not notice any improvement, or the worst case, a loss of performance. There must be clear that for a parallel program must, first, identify in the same parts that could be implemented separately on different processors. It is also important to note that a program is executed sequentially, should receive numerous amendments to it can be executed in parallel, ie first it would be interesting to study whether this work we take is offset by the improved performance of the task after parallelizable.
Expert Systems An expert system is an artificial intelligence application that uses a knowledge base of human experience to help solve problems (facts about objects and situations and information on tracking a action to solve a problem.)
